During the summer of 2023, YMA was selected as an Internship Sponsor in Scleroderma United's Internship Program, which is intentionally project-based and designed to provide aspiring health professionals with valuable hands-on experience creating a meaningful resource for scleroderma patients. During the approximately two-month internship, interns worked on one of four primary projects, each centered around enhancing educational resources for the scleroderma community.
On October 27th, 2023, YMA had the opportunity to work with NYU Langone to learn about genetic research and the medical field. YMA's members were able to get insight not only from researchers but also from medical students and PhD students as well. YMA feels honored to have this experience and is committed to offering our members more valuable experiences in the future, enriching numerous students' knowledge.
On October 17th, 2023, YMA partnered with the New York Fire Department to teach members about cardiopulmonary resuscitation from its importance to how to perform it. CPR is a life-saving essential and critical skill that is required to be known by all health professionals. By facilitating this comprehensive training, YMA not only strives to elevate members' proficiency but also contributes to the broader mission of fostering a safer community.
On December 2nd, 2023, YMA had the opportunity to work with Baruch College and the Office of Mayors, allowing YMA’s leadership council to attend, socialize, participate in mentoring, and discuss their ideas for advocacy for health disparities across NYC. It was a spectacular experience for members who were particularly interested in advocacy and making a real change in the city, proposing a community action project.
